Terraforming LIFE draws attention at the ManuREsource 2026 conference in the Netherlands

Date

Earlier this month, representatives from Orkídea took part in the ManuREsource 2026 conference, held 4–6 March in Ede/Wageningen in the Netherlands. The event is one of the leading international platforms for innovation in the management and valorisation of organic fertilisers and related side streams, making it a strong venue to showcase the progress of Terraforming LIFE.

Terraforming LIFE in focus

During the conference, Helga Gunnlaugsdóttir and Sveinn Aðalsteinsson from Orkídea led a roundtable discussion on the challenges and opportunities in biogas production. Insights from the Terraforming LIFE project played a central role, particularly the project’s work on converting side streams from aquaculture and agriculture in South Iceland into valuable products.

The level of engagement around the table clearly showed the relevance of the topic. Many thoughtful questions came up, clearly showing that the solutions we are developing in South Iceland have relevance far beyond our border.” says Sveinn Aðalsteinsson, CEO of Orkídea.

Turning waste into value

ManuREsource brings together experts from across Europe to share knowledge and explore the latest technologies in manure and digestate treatment. The conference’s mission — to support the transition from “waste” to valuable resources — aligns closely with the goals of Terraforming LIFE.

Strengthening international connections for South Iceland

In addition to sharing Icelandic expertise, the conference provided valuable opportunities to build new partnerships with international stakeholders. By combining global insights with the strong innovation ecosystem surrounding Orkídea, South Iceland continues to strengthen its competitiveness and advance more sustainable food production.
