Terraforming LIFE at the LIFE Platform Meeting in Bologna

Date

Terraforming LIFE proudly participated in the LIFE Platform Meeting titled “Future-Proofing Europe’s Agri-Food Sector: Innovation, Resilience, Sustainability, and Competitiveness”, organised by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action. The meeting took place at the University of Bologna on December 3rd-4th, 2025.

The two-day event gathered LIFE projects, policymakers, and industry experts to explore how innovation and circular solutions can strengthen Europe’s agri-food sector against climate and economic challenges. It featured keynote speeches on building a competitive and resilient food system by 2040, followed by dynamic panel discussions on topics such as climate-resilient agriculture, biodiversity restoration, and sustainable soil management. Participants also visited pilot sites showcasing best practices in organic dairy production and animal welfare, and enjoyed networking opportunities that fostered collaboration across projects and sectors.

Terraforming LIFE was highlighted during the session on Sustainability through Agri-Innovation, where Sigurður Trausti Karvelsson, Terraforming LIFE’s project coordinator, joined a panel to discuss how circular economy models can boost competitiveness. Our project demonstrated how transforming salmon sludge and manure into high-quality fertiliser creates value from side streams, reduces waste, and supports climate-neutral farming systems—an approach that aligns perfectly with the EU’s vision for sustainable agriculture.

By taking part in this platform, Terraforming LIFE reinforced its commitment to shaping the future of European agriculture through innovation, resource efficiency, and circularity.
