First Water

participant - COO

First Water is running enclosed land-based salmon farming and is running this project as a part of their vision for seeking the best eco-friendly ways of running their operation.

Feeding the world with sustainability
as our guiding principle

Main goal

First Water’s goal  within Terraforming LIFE is to operate a sustainable, land-based salmon farm with a responsible and environmentally sustainable pathway for managing fish sludge. The aquaculture facility, located in Þorlákshöfn, is being developed in phases and is planned to reach a total production capacity of around 60,000 tons HOG per year.

Main role

Responsibility

In Terraforming LIFE, First Water is responsible for providing sludge from it’s aquaculture plant. First Water will operate it’s dewatering unit where it will optimise the sludge recovering process by testing new fillers in the drum filters connected to the production phase.

About

Feeding the world with sustainability as our guiding principle

Through enclosed land-based farming, pristine filtered seawater of the North Atlantic and green geothermal energy we raise the finest Atlantic salmon. Our method imitates the natural and sustainable life cycle of the salmon that has spawned in our pristine freshwater and made the journey to the ocean and back again. This eliminates the need for antibiotics and the result is firm texture and great taste with a minimum environmental impact.
